SON OF THE VELVET RAT

Peter Jesperson (Ex-Manager The Replacements) zu SotVR:

„Beautiful and somber music, their lyrics are pure poetry.“

EP “DESERT STORIES” (ratmusic/monkey.)

The latest EP from Son of the Velvet Rat is entitled “Desert Stories” (ratmusic/monkey.), three dusty roots-chansons with a trace of Pop appeal.

The title alludes to the territory in which these new songs originated.

They were recorded in the band’s home-away-from-homeland, the California desert.

This time around, instead of drums and electric guitars, what we hear are washboard and pedal steel accompanied by the wind and rain on the garage roof, the garbage truck out on the street and the birds in the Joshua trees in front of the window.

But the dramatis personae are European.

These songs are populated by the likes of Greek sirens and an Italian protestor named Angela.

Nevertheless, this music can’t be nailed down to a specific geography.

Its location is longing with no destination, unrest that doesn’t put down roots;

discoveries made in transit, songs of life on the road.

" Altziebler's  lyrics emanate directly from his heart and their honesty and urgency give the songs a gorgeous hue."
